Precautions before Taking Oxytocin
Oxytocin is a natural hormone now made available in synthetic form so that its effects can be enjoyed further by its users. Among its main effects is to place the person in a state of euphoria, where he becomes extraordinarily happy, thrilled and cheerful. This hormone has been in use for the past few years already, and is a common item in parties and social gatherings as it is capable of making the night brighter than usual.
It is indeed a natural hormone, and because of this it doesn’t totally affect the normal processes of the human body. But this hormone can be a bit dangerous especially to people with certain conditions. Below are some of the common conditions in which taking oxytocin can be a bit risky.
1. Pregnancy. Women who are planning to or are already pregnant may be at risk to oxytocin. For one, the body already produces higher amounts of the hormone as part of the natural process of pregnancy, thus taking extra amounts of oxytocin may lead to overdose. Two, having higher amounts of the hormone may place the person in risk of hypertension, high attack and anxiety, which can be dangerous not only for herself but as well as the baby.
2. People with allergies. One common form of oxytocin is that of nasal sprays, and the liquid inside the sprays when atomized can cause allergies such as rashes, hives and sinusitis. People with predisposed allergies may be at greater risk to oxytocin, thus it is advised that they don’t take too much of the hormone to avoid further complications.
3. People with epilepsy. Eplieptic seizures are usually triggered by a surge of emotions. Since the hormone makes a person more cheerful and happy, they sometimes don’t get control of their emotions and in turn suffer from seizures later on. They are thus discouraged to take the hormone even in its nasal form, so that they would be less at risk to seizures and other epileptic attacks.
4. Lactating mothers. Breastfeeding can be heavily affected by oxytocin, and these may include reduced amounts of milk produced and contraction of the mammary glands. Lactating mothers should thus consult their doctor first so they know if they are eligible to take oxytocin hormone supplements or not.
5. Persons suffering from high blood pressure. People with high blood pressure are already prone to stroke, heart attack and consistent headaches, and consuming oxytocin may only worsen their condition.
Oxytocin can be very helpful especially in brightening one’s mood and attitude in a natural way, but heavy dosages of the hormone can definitely be problematic and may cause further problems. If you are planning to take the hormone, it is advised that you check with a doctor first to see if it would not affected your health, as well as look for the right forms of the hormone to consume. While intravenous forms have higher amounts of oxytocin, some people can only take those from nasal sprays, as these come in moderate amounts.
